An interview with Nestor deNeffo, a character by Author R.D. Henderson for Nambroc Series

Hello everyone, and welcome to the customized interview with Nestor deNeffo, a black elf and a senior operative in the Nambroc Knives, the pre-eminent intelligence service in the Nether Realm.

The plot of my first book Hondus Pointe revolves around how Nestor and a squad of Knives loyal to him solve their money problems by getting involved in narcotics trafficking, assassinations for local crime lords, and selling state secrets to the enemy.  

This interview gives an insight to the personality and character of Nestor deNeffo.

Interviewer: What is your job and do you enjoy it?

Nestor: *smiles* Thanks for asking me this wonderful question. I greatly appreciate you giving me this opportunity to share a little bit about myself.

I am a Nambroc Knife which is the pre-eminent intelligence service and I protect Nambroc from enemies from within and out. I am willing to do what is necessary to ensure Nambroc is safe and secure. I apprehend the traitors, saboteurs, narcotics traffickers, spies, arms dealers, and other types of that ilk.

*sounds like he knew the words by heart…continues talking*

Due to my position as a Knife, I interact with some of the most interesting and exciting people on a regular basis. I have built solid business relationships with many of these people such as saboteurs, narcotics traffickers, and arms dealers. I have benefitted from these long-standing businesses financially which has provided me a stable source of income in addition to the measly wages that I earn as a Knife.

I really enjoy my job as a Nambroc Knife. *smiles again*

Interviewer: What is your biggest accomplishment?

Nestor: *deep in thought, takes a moment before he says…*

This is really an insightful question.

I have ruminated on this question for quite long period of time, and I really could not say what is my biggest accomplishment. I think of myself as a very pragmatic and grounded person, but I cannot really decide on what is my biggest accomplishment.

I lost count of how many times my actions and decisions have protected the civic leaders of Nambroc, ensured the continued safety and security of the Nambroc populace, or protected Nambroc’s most important state secrets.

*long pause – deep in thought – after considerable thinking says…*

I think anything I do as a Nambroc Knife is a major accomplishment.

Interviewer: If you could go back in time to tell yourself something at the age of 15, what would you tell yourself?

Nestor: *relieved with this question, answers quickly*

I still say the same thing to myself every day and started when I was even younger than the age of 15:

“I am great, and I am very humble and stoic about how great I truly am.”

Interviewer: Would you say you’re an honest person?

Nestor: *brimming over with confidence*

Thank you for asking such thought-provoking and important question.

I am the most honest and trustworthy person I know.

*looks relieved*

Interviewer: Who are you closest to?

Nestor: *in a stern tone*

The only person that I’m close to is myself.

I am the only person I can trust in what I do as a Nambroc Knife. I work with colleagues and deal with people outside of the Knives who lie, cheat, steal, and kill on a regular basis. I have no other choice but to trust myself.

*lump in the throat*

Since I cannot trust anyone other than myself, it is very difficult for me to get close to anyone.

Interviewer: That was intense, let’s end things on a simple note.

Nestor: *nods*

Interviewer: If you could have the magic to fly or to time travel, which would toy choose?

Nestor: I would like to fly.
